Why is it important to use exercises that allow you to use more weight? Simple – because you will recruit the majority of your muscle fibers. For instance, if you perform a set of standing dumbbell overhead presses with a weight you can only press for eight repetitions, you will be using almost every muscle fiber in your shoulders.
Since you are recruiting most of your muscle fibers, you will get a much better response from those muscles — you will build lean muscle and sculpt them much quicker than with isolation exercises. That is a very good thing.
Not to mention, by performing standing dumbbell overhead presses compared to lateral raises, you will also work your triceps and core to a much higher degree. That will not only allow you to sculpt your shoulders, but also your triceps and your core. Isolation exercises can’t do that.
